and I could still maintain them with my Nappyloc tool so all in all I was happy with my decision. Also with me turning my “SL” into Braidlocks I could see the length of my hair and see how much it had actually grown since the first time my “SL” was installed.
After I was done with my hair I was delighted. I could see length; I didn’t have to worry about my hair unraveling and I was still able to achieve the micro lock that I wanted in the very beginning.
Now that I have had my newly redone locks (Braidlocks) for 3 months I can’t be more pleased. Now the only thing that I debate about is when I should celebrate my 1 one year lockversary. Should it be when I got the SL installed or when I finished my Braidlocks?
I have found about 10 SL that I never took out b/c they seem to be settling quite well and didn’t see the purpose of taking me out. Well, those bad boys are locked down. The ends are sealed and feel very dense and they have hang time. Makes me wonder if I had left them alone like most people do if more would have been locked down by now. I don’t really dwell on tate b/c I had to do what made me happy.
I have read a lot of blogs and one thing is consistent. You learn a lot about yourself when you take this journey of locking. I learned that I am not as patient as I thought. More so than ever I am a DIY type person. I take pride in the fact when someone comments on my hair and asks who did it or who keeps it up I can sey ME!!!! If I have not said it before I love my hair and like most people say I wish I would have done this 10 years ago when I first realized locks were beautiful and an accent of our heritage.

Well done! They looking good and they will lock and hang in no time. But remember you still need patience!
You are my type of girl! I was sisterlocked on dec 1-2. I have been doing my own hair with the pattern 4 rotation. Like you, I took some locs down and restarted them. I`am very happy as well!
Keep on doing what you do! You and your hair are simply beautiful!
YOur locks are beautiful! You have done a great job!
keep updating pics! i love to see your progress, you hair looks great!
Wow congrats you did a gr8 job your locs look beautiful.
you have patience to take them down and braid them. But then again if it's want you want you will spend your time on it.
I am of a similar opinion. If i knew then what i know now, i would have got someone to braid my hair in the particular partings and then just maintained myself. I would love to see your progress
They look nice, very Nice!!!! :)
Keep in mind however, that ALL Locks {regardless of the method to start them} will have some shrinkage, that is part of the locking process. My updates coming this April.
Take Care~
i know all about diy. i wasn't pleased until i did my own sisterlocks. it's a trial and error thing. you really never know what you're getting until it's done - so i took that and ran with it. i now have a set i'm proud of. I DID IT MY WAY!
Your braidlocks are so cute and i'm excited about your locking journey! I'm book marking your page.
Thank you so much everyone, I am so proud of my hair, and the job that i have done. I appreciate everyones postive comment.
I know I already posted yesterday but it doesn't hurt to post again. I really really like your locks. Will you continue to dye them as the roots grow out or are you trying to create that 2-toned look?
I was thinking about the two tone look but I also like that color, I think it goes well with my complexion, but the way i see it right now I want to continue to dye it. Im just unsure of when to start.
Congratulations! i love it. i love your blog. I enjoyed reading about your journey and look forward to seeing and reading more about your hair. And your children are beautiful. What I love about locks is a full head of hair and it must be neat. I think you did a fantastic job with yours.
You did a great job! Congratulations!
As for your anniversaries, why not celebrate them all? ;)
why did you take the sl's down? you were DIY the tightenings, right? just wondering...
I took the SL down b/c my ends were just so open and just about on my whole head the lock was so loose, I felt I had to control over it and that was driving me crazy. At the beginning I was doing the DIY tightens but the over all appearance of the lock was not to my liking.
oh, i totally understand. thanks! i was curious, since i never followed through with my installation of sls!
You have done an absolutely fabulous job! I am not a DIY'er but I am impressed by those that are. I know how to retighten my hair but I don't get a kick out of it (-:. Please keep posting and sharing your journey with us!
i have a 5 yr old i am considering locking. can you tell me what is nappylocking? is it just bradelocking with a special tool? i want her to have real small locks like yours.
Hi Saabira,
I know that you repeatedly hear how beautiful your hair is but I'm going to say it again YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS!!! And of course, I don't separate the hair from the person, so I am awed by your fight to get where you want to be.
I wanted to know how to get braid locks. Currently, I'm researching SL's but haven't made up my mind. as I'm discovering all of my options. I wanted to know how your hair locks when it's braided. Does that happen b/c you retighten the new growth into the braided lock? Can I still braidlock if I have texturizer at the ends? Do you know of a consultant I could contact? Sorry if there's an overload of questions. Please let me know anything that would be helpful.
I truly appreciate your insights,
Iris
Yes you can still get braidlocks, it’s just that the braided part of you hair might come undone more so than if it was all natural but don’t let that stop you. Just means you have to pay attention to your ends more when ever you wash your hair. Your correct when you say that the new growth will start to locs as you tighten your hair, and your ends might even get little balls on them (at least mine did). But again since your hair is not completely natural that might or might not happen. As your hair grows you will see how your hair locs and you might want to cut the braided part off. I think in about a few years that’s what Ill do. When my hair is at least to my shoulders Ill cut about an inch off and will keep doing that until the braided part is gone. That’s so great about being a DIY its all about trial and error and doing you do it when you feel like it and learn from it. If you need any more advise email me @ nappynlovinit8@yahoo.com
You hair looks great. You are very smart and creative! You go girl!
Your locks are gorgeous and so full! I am two months into my braidlocks journey.I am going to follow your journey. Keep doing what you are doing!
I was just looking as your post on youtube about your hair locking journey and how you felt etc.I am also interested in braid locs, i wanted to know what size are you braids? Are they 1/8", 1/4"? You see i have been doing my research and found out that after a while the locks swells and i really dont want big locks. So is there a particular size that you used to lock your hair cause i like the size of your locks.
@ trini_reds_1978 I dont know what size my braids were. The size was determined my the SL consultant. But my best educated guess would be the size of a micro braid. .
